Troubleshoot a failed bake
Find the cause of a failed bake in a few calm steps, instead of changing several settings at once.
The cause of a failure found and fixed, or a report ready for support.
- A bake that failed with a CNX code.
Step by step
- Read the first error
Note the exact CNX code and message in the Bake Window. The first error is the one that matters.
- Look up the code
Find the code in the error codes list. It tells you the cause and the first thing to try.
- Check the solver
In the Cloth neXt preferences, click Run Health Check. If it fails, fix that before anything else.
- Check the scene
Click Run Scene Health Check. It checks geometry, solver readiness and storage.
- Make the scene smaller
Use a short range and hide unrelated objects until the failure is isolated. Then add things back one at a time.
- Ask for help with a report
If you are stuck, use Export Privacy-Safe Report and send it to PolyWorks support with the CNX code.
The short test bakes again, then the full shot.
If something goes wrong
- Cloth passes through objects
- Check collider motion, surface offset, collision gap and scene scale before changing advanced solver values.
- The bake runs out of memory
- Use a collision cage or proxy, reduce collider samples, and keep memory safety on.
