Caches, rebaking and recovery

Know when a result is still valid, when you must rebake, and how Cloth neXt protects your previous result.

You will

You can tell when to rebake, and you can resume an interrupted bake.

Before you start
  • A scene with a finished bake.

Step by step

  1. Know what a cache is tied to

A finished bake remembers the geometry and settings it was made with.

  2. Rebake after changes

If you change geometry or any setting the solver uses, the result is out of date. Click Rebake.

  3. Your old result stays safe

While the new bake runs, the previous valid result stays in use. Cloth neXt checks the new cache before switching to it and only then removes old versions.

  4. Turn on recovery for long bakes

Keep Enable Recovery and Auto Save Checkpoints on. A checkpoint is saved every 20 frames by default, and the last 3 are kept.

  5. Resume after an interruption

If Blender or the bake stops unexpectedly, click Resume Latest, or Start Fresh to begin again. Only checkpoints that match the current scene and solver are offered.

  6. Clean up

Use Clear Result to remove a Cloth neXt result. It never touches other files.

Check the result

You rebake after solver-relevant changes, and long bakes can resume after an interruption.

If something goes wrong

No checkpoint is offered
The scene or solver changed since the checkpoint was saved, so it cannot be used. Rebake.
The result looks old
Something changed since the bake. Rebake to bring it up to date.
